During September 2010 STEPH was selected to attend a ten day workshop & residency at Lasalle College of the Arts in Singapore. This culminated in an exhibition with the 16 other post graduate participants from various art academies & institutions around the world. It was held at the Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore & was curated by Dr Charles Merewether.
The theme for the 4th Tropical Lab was Urban Mythologies. STEPH's research involved observing daily life & photo documenting the multicultural urban environment that is Singapore. After a series of lectures, presentations & excursions participants had three days to make the work for the exhibition - one lecturer described the workshop as ‘art boot camp'. A generous budget was distributed & materials were sourced locally with the assistance of local students.
This trip to Singapore was a really valuable experience for STEPH. "To work with a group of fellow MFA candidates from around the world with such diverse backgrounds & a tight deadline was very exciting & challenging".
